This eliminates rocker pad data entry by providing an efficient-to-use rotary knob which selects alpha-numerics and advances the cursor with a quick tap of the joystick. The XM weather functions are really what puts the Garmin GPSMAP 696 in a class by itself. Being able to see your destination’s weather before departure is priceless. The 696 also lets you view weather products such as altimeter and surface winds on your main navigation screen.
