The GPSMAP 696 also takes our intuitive, easy-to-use operations to a new level with an integrated rotary knob/joystick or “click stick.” The joystick and soft key combinations are quick and very user friendly. This eliminates rocker pad data entry by providing an efficient-to-use rotary knob which selects alpha-numerics and advances the cursor with a quick tap of the joystick. The same joystick makes map panning and waypoint identification on the map page fast and intuitive.

The XM weather functions are really what puts the Garmin GPSMAP 696 in a class by itself. Being able to see your destination’s weather before departure is priceless. The 696 also lets you view weather products such as altimeter and surface winds on your main navigation screen.
